Hebrew Language Learning: Shalom Ivrit
Wornick’s Hebrew language curriculum prepares our graduates to be conversationally proficient in Hebrew. Our teaching methodology is based on best practices recommended by the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) with a focus on speaking and comprehension. For native speakers, our Hebrew curriculum follows Israel’s Ministry of Education standards.
Substantive research shows that students experience cognitive benefits as a result of second language learning, particularly when the target language is so different from the native language with a different alphabet and directionality.
Hebrew language learning extends beyond the classroom and comes to life in many ways at Wornick: Hebrew Movie morning/Moadon HaSaret, Targemna Translation Bee, as well as Hebrew drama that includes singing, dancing, and performing.
For new students entering Wornick from another school, we have designed a special “Ulpan” beginners program to introduce basic Hebrew conversation and literacy skills.
Additionally, students get a flavor of another language beginning in the Sixth Grade. Student are exposed to Spanish in a six week exploration class as part of the Sixth Grade Elective Wheel, and they can continue to pursue this language as an elective in Seventh and Eighth Grades.
