Head of School Search
On December 8, 2017, we announced that our beloved Head of School, Dr. Barbara Gereboff plans to retire after ten years at R.C. Wornick Jewish Day School. Barbara has led the Wornick Jewish Day School with exceptional wisdom, passion, thoughtfulness, commitment, and heart. Among her many outstanding achievements is her success in building Wornick as an academically progressive institution, one of the early independent schools to adopt a curriculum steeped in inter-disciplinary learning. Under Barbara’s leadership, Wornick has become a school known for developing engaged, resilient leaders. This spring, she was approached by a national Jewish non-profit organization for an amazing opportunity to work with them. She will be leaving Wornick on June 30, 2018, rather than at the end of the 2018-19 school year, as previously announced.
Barbara will continue in her role as head of school through June 2018, and she is committed to a smooth leadership transition. Any communications to the Head of School should be directed to her through that date. She and the administrative team will be working closely with the Board to support and implement key strategic planning initiatives.
Interim Head of School Announcement
After a thorough and detailed search process, the Wornick Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Lillian Howard as Wornick's new interim Head of School for the 2018-19 academic year. Lillian was the Head of School at Kehillah High School in Palo Alto from 2007-2013, and prior to that she founded a Jewish Community High School in Baltimore. In the years since retiring from Kehillah as a full time administrator, Lillian has held several leadership roles in education including spending a year at Congregation Beth David in San Luis Obispo where she oversaw the curriculum and programming for their Jewish Studies program, as well as chairing the English department at Mission College Prep in San Luis Obispo.
Lillian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked closely with students, faculty, parents and the community as a collaborative team builder who has a passion for mentoring staff and educators. In addition to her strong background in school management and administration, she is passionate about advocating for children to allow them to become confident, critical thinkers, and ethical decision makers. Lillian is a well-known and respected educator in the community and has a reputation as a sincere, effective, and inspiring leader. Over the course of her tenured career, Lillian has demonstrated a deep love of Jewish education. Her thoughtfulness and confidence as an experienced Head of School makes her the ideal candidate to lead Wornick’s transition for the next academic year.
Lillian is excited to “jump in”, listen, and get started to lead the charge for this upcoming academic year as we continue to search for a long-term HOS. She will be on campus and start full-time as of July 2, 2018. Welcome Lillian!
Head of School Update & Timeline
The Wornick Board of Trustees is committed to finding a passionate and skilled leader who both appreciates and embodies Wornick’s mission and core values, and who will lead our school with vision and enthusiasm into the future. The search committee, led by Wornick parent and trustee, Limeng Stroh, will develop a plan to ensure a smooth transition. The committee and entire board are committed to a thoughtful, thorough and transparent process. Limeng and the committee will provide updates over the next eighteen months to provide for an informed process.
Conduct town halls, meetings and surveys with different stakeholders to gather community input and develop an opportunity statement (with job description). Community completed a survey and DRG SEARCH visited the campus on Apr 23-24, 2018, where numerous teacher and parent interviews were held, as well as, two community town halls.
