Dear Wornick Families,

I want to thank all of you who joined us for a wonderful Shabbat dinner on Friday. I want to thank the PTO, our Wornick team, and all the volunteers who made the event so wonderful.

I wanted to close the loop on the news I shared with you all last week regarding the positive cases in our community. Following the news that all the close contacts of the COVID-19 positive individuals who had been on Wornick’s campus, tested negative, we reopened our campus to our professional community on Friday morning.

Our school has been busy preparing for the return to on campus instruction for our youngest students. Unfortunately, the poor air quality has remained in the Bay Area longer than we had expected. Our health and safety plan relies on outdoor classrooms as well as outdoor air ventilation in our indoor classrooms to establish learning spaces that reduce the possibility of transmission. Our team is ready and eager to open for on-campus learning for our TK-K students. Unfortunately, due to the prolonged poor air quality we cannot open our campus for TK and Kindergarten in person instruction tomorrow. It is not safe for young students to be exposed to poor air for an entire day and the forecast for tomorrow is above 150 AQI on airnow.gov. Given that the air quality could improve at midday tomorrow we will announce a decision about the 4th grade social event scheduled for tomorrow afternoon by 11am tomorrow morning.

Our school is dedicated to continuing to move forward with in person learning as soon as possible. We hope that air quality will improve and we will be able to open our campus for instruction on Wednesday for TK and Kindergarten. The delay to on-campus learning for our Kindergarten students does not push back our phasing in of 1st grade on September 29th. As we shared previously, we will share an update on the return of 2nd through 6th grade on September 25th for on-campus learning. All of our communications and COVID-19 information can be found on our website at https://www.wornickjds.org/for-our-families/2020-21.
