Dear Wornick Parents/Guardians and Profession:

The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are writing to inform you of a COVID-19 positive case in our school community. A student tested positive as part of our regular surveillance testing program. The student took a test on Tuesday after school and received results today. The rest of the family of the student was tested on Tuesday. Two tested negative and they are still awaiting the results from the fourth family member. The student is asymptomatic and the family has had no known contacts with COVID-19 positive individuals. First and foremost, we wish health upon the family and hope that they remain asymptomatic. We received news of the positive case shortly after 1pm today and immediately dismissed all of the students in the class of the positive case, as well as the students in the grades of the sibling of the COVID-19 positive individual. Our school is immediately transitioning to full remote learning across all grade levels until we have more information.

Consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), California Department of Public Health, and our protocols, the community member is self-quarantining, monitoring symptoms, and working with their healthcare provider to identify additional steps.

Yesterday, over half of our teachers were tested as part of our weekly testing protocols. All of those test results came back negative. In addition, we have had no other positive tests in our community in the past month, including those students who reported results as part of the regular surveillance testing program this week.

Tomorrow morning we will send an update about our plan and share any other information we have about test results in our community. We will also do our best to communicate our plan on next week's learning program as soon as we have made a decision. Please continue to monitor yourself and child for symptoms and keep them home if they or someone in your household is experiencing symptoms. Please contact your healthcare provider if you have any additional questions or concerns. Please notify Wornick at health@wornickjds.org if you or anyone in your household experiences any symptoms.

Consistent with privacy laws and our own policies, we are not able to share more specific information concerning the community member. As members of a compassionate and caring community, I ask everyone to respect each other's privacy, especially around health information.

Finally, there are concrete things we all can do to keep ourselves and families healthy and safe: practice good hygiene, wear face coverings, practice physical distancing when outside of the home, and avoid public gatherings. Please review our protocols, past COVID-19 information, and communication here.

Thank you for your continued support. In partnership and health,

Adam Eilath
