Please refer to Wornick's detailed 2020-21 Reopening Plan. San Mateo is currently on the state watch list. Per the Governor's order being on the watchlist means that a school cannot open for in person instruction. In order to be eligible to resume in person instruction, schools must be located in counties that are off the watchlist for a minimum of fourteen consecutive days.
We continue to evaluate our options, including any potential waiver process, however, as of this date, the County of San Mateo has not yet published the waiver process application.
We have committed to beginning the year in remote learning for 3rd to 8th grade through September. For K-2, we will start remotely while we work through the waiver process. We will provide an update in early September.
Please talk with your child about expectations and norms. Talk to them about setting up their schedule for the day - when their meetings with teachers are scheduled for, when they will work on academic work, when they will do other activities, and when they can find a way to get some exercise. Make sure they have all of their tools and materials ready to be able to get their work done. Please also talk to them about being on time to log in for any lessons, how to mute themselves, that they are not allowed to take pictures or record, and to be respectful of others. Set a time to review their work with them. Importantly, if you are able, make time at the end of day to read or play a game together!
First and foremost, if your child is finishing work quickly, have them check their work and review with them. Many times, children need to slow down and ensure that they have done their work correctly. If they are all done, there are many activities they do that are good for them: get outside, play something not involving electronics, read, cook, do yoga...the sky is the limit. There are also many online resources for educational or extracurricular activities:
