TK/Kindergarten FAQs

We consider every child on an individual basis to determine whether TK, Kindergarten, or another year of preschool is most appropriate. 

On average, we accept 26-32 total students that are split into two sections. Those sections average 13-16 students.

There is one lead teacher and an assistant teacher. Students also have classes with a specialist in art, music, Peleh lab (makerspace), PE, Hebrew, and Jewish Studies.

Our TK/K program is an integrated one, where there are TK and Kindergarten students together in each section. We accept anywhere from 4-10 TK students depending on the year and split them evenly between the two sections. There are differentiated learning opportunities for students who are eager for challenges or who need support. Students also engage in small group work at the TK and K level, as well as integrated opportunities.

8:20am - 3:30pm Monday - Thursday, and 8:20am - 3:00pm on Fridays. There are occasional early dismissal days throughout the year, generally the day before a holiday.

Every day is a bit different but on average, students arrive, get settled in, and have circle time to get ready for the day. On Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays we have all school gatherings for Havdalah, Tefillah, and Kabbalat Shabbat. Students have blocks of learning times that include calendar and numbers, Language Arts (Fundations program), Math (Investigations program), Writing (Writers’ Workshop), Science (Next Generation Science Standards), Social Studies, Hebrew, Jewish Studies, Art, Music, Peleh Lab (makerspace), Social Emotional Learning (Toolbox) and PE.

We have a long school day so generally no. We do encourage families to read together for 20 minutes every night. There may be an occasional item to bring in for projects.

So many things! We have small class sizes that allow our teachers to really get to know each child and be able to meet them where they are at. Wornick’s curriculum addresses the whole child with challenging academics, as well as opportunities for creativity, social emotional learning, and public speaking. This all takes place in a community that emphasizes becoming a leader and models Jewish traditions and values. Our teachers are also trained in project based learning so there are many incorporated projects with their learning standards so there are many opportunities for hands-on learning and fun!
