Course Description

The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance general and specific skills related to technology usage.

During the year we will be covering the following topics:

  • Basic computer operation and care
  • Word processing and typing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Presentation materials
  • Web authoring
  • Multimedia
  • Effective, efficient, and safe Internet usage
  • Ethics, issues, and morals related to the digital world

Assignments

In-class assignments will be given each week, most of which will continue over several weeks.  Students will also be given periodic homework assignments related to topics covered in class.  Every month, students will be required to keep a typing log in which they record their typing practice during the month.  Students will be required to practice a total of 3 hours each month.

Submission of assignments and typing logs will only be accepted electronically (unless otherwise stated in class).  Assignments should be submitted by email to the address given above.

Grading

Grades will be weighted as follows:

In-class assignments30%

Homework and typing logs30%

Participation and effort25%

Condition of the student’s laptop15%
