HOW TO CONNECT A LOCAL PRINTER
TO THE IBOOK
Note 1: This procedure works for local printers not network printers. Local printers are printers that are directly connected to the computer.
Note 2: The iBooks will only attach to printers via the USB ports (the two identical ports on the left side of the computer with the image that looks like roots pointing up from a single dot). If the printer you are trying to attach only had a Parallel port connection (long thick connection), then you need to buy a Parallel to USB converter at an electronics store (like Fry’s)
- Make sure have the software for the printer you wish to install. This can either be done using the CD that came with the printer or by downloading the PRINTER DRIVER (printer software) from the manufactures website.

Your printer is now added to the computer and ready to use. It will work ONLY when the USB cable is connect to the computer and printer and the printer is ON.
Note: The name of the printer should be added to the list of printers. It should also be BOLD. This means the printer you just added is the default printer for the computer. I would suggest changing the default back to your previous default
To change your default printer:
- Double click on the Macintosh HD icon
- Click on the Applications button
- Double click on the Utilities icon
- Double click on the Printer Setup Utility icon
- Click on the printer you want to make default (MS students should choose -- LaserJet 1320 series [MS])
