Nov 7-11
A slight emergency this week that gave me a few new gray hairs, but as all things do, it all worked out.
The kids are doing great with their powerpoint projects. The 4th and 5th graders are deep in the mix now, and the 6th and 7th graders have already presented...I was EXTREMELY impressed with their presentations.
ERBs are now over...and I think after Thanksgiving we are REALLY going to get into the thick of the fun stuff in the Middle School. Stay tuned.
Kindergarten: After a little bit of disorganization, the students explored Kid Pix again. They are getting quite good at moving the mouse and click and dragging. Then we investigated the Paint Brush tools, both the paint brush and the spray can. I think the kids really enjoyed finding the candy and the money.
1st Grade: Due to the emergency on Monday, the students weren’t given any instruction...they just had free time. We will get back into the full swing next week.
2nd Grade: No Class
3rd Grade: 3A – No class
3B – Because I didn’t want them to get too far ahead of the other class, I gave the students free time on Kid Pix. It is amazing to see what they can find. They find stuff even I don’t know about and I have the manual.
4th Grade: 4A — No Class
4B — The students finished up their research for their powerpoint presentations. Then we talked about how to download images off the Internet. The students were given the task of finding and downloading 10 large images off the Internet to include in their presentations. Next week, we start creating the presentations themselves.
Homework:
5th Grade: Finally, I got to see these students again. It had been a LONG time. We got started on their powerpoint presentations. They began with research by using google to find sites about their topics and take notes based on the information they found. Next week, we will download images.
Homework:
6th Grade: About half the students gave their presentations. We talked about using Powerpoint as a supplement to the presentation, not the focal point. Try not to read the slides and make sure to address the entire crowd. Show confidence in the subject matter and speak in a conversational manner. And most importantly, keep going...there will inevitably be a problem...just roll with the punches. The student did a PHENOMENAL job. Not just for their age or ability level, but in general. I have seen good and bad presentations in my time and these kids did great.
Homework:
7th Grade: First, we finished up our presentations...I am SO impressed with this group. Then we talked about backing up data. We spoke about using email, CDs, flash drives, printing, and connecting to the server to save their data. We went through an exercise where they actually connected to the server and uploaded a file. Now, they should be ready to make copies of important material.
Homework:
8th Grade: No class
