Student Community

Students at Wornick are truly shaped for the rest of their lives by their learnings, experiences and social relationships.

As part of our Technology curriculum, the Wornick 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade and middle school classes were given some background information about the recent catastrophic events in Haiti. They were told of the Haitian people's suffering and of their desperate circumstances. But they were also told of the heroic efforts of the Israeli government to rapidly establish a field hospital on the ground in Haiti. They were then asked to use their laptops to write and save a letter of hope, sympathy and/or support to either the people of Haiti or the members of the Israeli Defense Forces. Read the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade letters to Haiti.

Student life at RCWJDS begins the first day of school and continues after graduation. We teach the values of our community including community service, social responsibility and tikkun olam - repair of the world.

Student Council

Wornick Jewish Day School has both a fifth through eighth grade Student Council.

The Student Council provides leadership development education. Students in grade 5 campaign for the offices of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and commissioner of publicity.

Campaign posters are created and speeches are given by the candidates at an all-school assembly. Students in Grades 1 - 5 vote to determine the winner(s) and class representatives to the Student Council are elected by each class. The officers and representatives sell snacks at recess, vote on fun days and help with various tzedekah projects.

Students who serve on the Wornick Student Council build confidence, learn teamwork and are introduced to the political process.

In addition to various fun days throughout the year, the Student Council also practices tzedekah such as giving a donation every month to our library, collecting General Mills box tops to buy equipment for the PE and Gesher programs, and donating to Israel's Magen David Adom and to the Jump Rope for Heart program. We also sponsor the Talent Shows here at Wornick.

One hundred percent of our money comes from the Monday through Thursday morning Snack Sales. Thank you for supporting us.
