Sports Reports from our Wornick Middle School journalists

During the past few months, I have been on one of the Wornick Ram basketball teams. I was on team White with Sophie Scheinman, Karryn Joelson, Talia Hafter, Jillian Osheroff, Sophie Test, and Leora and Sigal Alcheck. Our coach was Coach Ortman. I know I can speak for the team by saying we had a blast.

In the beginning of the season a couple of our players had never even played basketball before (myself included) but by the end we almost made it to playoffs! During practices we worked hard but it all paid off while playing. We played Memphis, shot free-throws and sprinted a lot. A highlight for me was the first game we won; everyone was screaming and cheering because we beat an undefeated team. Another highlight for the team was when there was a couple seconds left in the game and our team was down by 3. Sophie Scheinman took the ball and shot a 3 pointer! This took us to overtime! The whole team was so exited, screaming, hugging, and cheering. This was definitely the best moment of the whole season.

Over the past 3 years I have played on many Wornick Rams sports teams and enjoyed all of them. Last year, in 7th grade, I was fortunate enough to be on the Rams Varsity Basketball team and we made it all the way to the championship game, and won! This year I was on the basketball team again. My teammates this year were Ariana Sfard, Sophie Rubin, Daniella Frid, Jessica Kirshner, Jordan Berke, and Sophie Talcove-Berko; we were the Blue team. Even though we only won two games this season we still had loads of fun. Until the very last game there was not a single point in the season where at least one of our players was not injured, but we put aside the pain and played our hardest. Last year in the championship game we played Sea Crest; this year we played them again and beat them again. This meant a lot to me because they were a very hard team to beat and the fact that we did it twice shows that the first time was not a lucky chance. Our team was very small which gave us a chance to become even closer than we were before. Rams sports have made a big impact on me in these past three years and my experience at Wornick would not be the same without them.
