BJE’s Shalhevet trip to Poland and Israel

BJE’s Shalhevet

Shalhevet is a learning experience that connects Bay Area high school juniors and seniors to the history, heritage and future of the Jewish people.

Shalhevet is unique among teen travel programs to Poland and Israel due to the comprehensive curriculum the students engage in before the trip and the follow up upon return. Jewish history in Eastern Europe, the founding of the state of Israel, the Holocaust and modern day revitalization of Polish Jewry are just a few of the topics. During the two week trip to Poland and Israel much of the curriculum is brought to life. With a Bay Area Holocaust survivor as a guide, students visit concentration camps, remnants of the Jewish Ghetto, and today’s growing Jewish community. They spend time with Polish and Israeli peers, learn how they relate to their countries’ past, and their hopes for the future. They’ll develop a deep connection to Israel and the Jewish people, and with the tools to become their generation’s Jewish leaders.

This year’s travel dates are March 21 – April 4, 2012. Pre-trip educational seminars take place on five Sundays: January 22, February 5, 12, 26, and March 11. A post-trip seminar will take place on Sunday, April 15.

Shalhevet is a transformational journey with an amazing group of teens and staff. We hope you’ll join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For program details and more information, find Shalhevet on Facebook www.facebook.com/Shalhevet.BayArea or contact me (info below). I look forward to answering all your questions!

If you’re on the Peninsula (or can make it to the Peninsula), we have two upcoming informational sessions on December 4 & 11 at 4:30pm. To RSVP, or if you can’t make it but want to know more, check out our events on the Facebook page above.
