Wornick News

  • Dr. Gereboff’s Head Notes - Birthday Lessons
On Tuesday, three boys from third grade visited me during lunch. They were talking about how another boy in the class was excluding them from playing a game during recess...

  • Principal's Proud Moments
In a school with over 200 children ranging in age from 4 to 14, it is important to find ways to support connections among them. Building community creates an environment of safety where students explore their interests, reach outside their comfort zone, and improve social skills...

Wornick To-Do List

  • Please remember: JFCS Food bins in the RCWJDS lobby
Fall is a good time to remember those less fortunate than us. Jewish Family and Children's Services and Second Harvest Food Bank work together to bring donated food to those in need. If you are so inclined, please feel free to drop off non-perishables in the bin in the lobby.

  • Lost and Not Found - YET!!
At the far end of the first floor hall lives our school's Lost and Found. Please visit it once in a while to reclaim your lost items. If they have your name they generally go back to classrooms, but Middle Schoolers should check it regularly. There are many lunch boxes and water bottles from after school sports.

  • Elementary School Open House
Please help spread the word about our upcoming Elementary School Open House on Sunday, November 9 from 10:00 am to Noon. An electronic postcard for you to share is here. If you would like printed postcards to share with your friends, please see Karen Alexander in Admissions.

  • Chai Excellence
The Chai Excellence Fund, our annual giving campaign, helps close the gap between tuition and the actual cost of the outstanding education here at Wornick. For the last three years, we have achieved 100% participation from parents, staff and our board. We would love to accomplish this important goal for a fourth year. By achieving this we improve our chances of maximizing grant opportunities (see our match incentives here) and making an impact with potential funders. So, we need you!

In an effort to reach this milestone by December 31, we are once again offering great rewards for timely participation (pledges received by 12/31/14, paid by 6/30/15):
    — Classes that reach 100% participation by November 15 will receive a childcare "fun day" on Friday, February 13, 2015 when there is a teacher in-service. There will be an art class taught by Lilach Margulis or sports with JCC Maccabi Sports Camp staff from 1-3:00 PM. Bring a lunch - there will be no hot lunch that day.
    — K-5 classes that reach 100% by December 1 will receive a party with Dr. Gereboff (date tbd) and Middle school students will receive a ticket to the Middle School movie night (grades 6-8).
Last but not least classes reaching 100% by December 31 will receive one free hot lunch.

Please remember that these incentives are not cumulative and apply to the classes reaching 100% during each time-frame. To participate in Chai Excellence Fund, please visit www.wornickjds.org/donate-online/ or stop by to pick up a pledge envelope. If you are new to school and/or have questions, please don't hesitate to contact Ruthellen Harris, Interim Director of Development at rharris@wornickjds.org or 650-378-2621.

  • Feast Your Mind
We are in the final stages of designing and printing the invitation for Feast Your Mind, to be held on February 21, 2015. We are still looking for a few great, interesting speakers. Who do you know? Is that you? We also are seeking sponsors. Please think of your employer or the merchants you patronize and ask them to become sponsors. The forms are on our website. For questions, contact Ruthellen Harris, Interim Director of Development at rharris@wornickjds.org or 650-378-2621.

  • Applications to Wornick for 2015-2016
are now available on the Wornick website! Siblings of current Wornick students will receive priority scheduling for Kindergarten screening dates if their applications are received by January 1, 2015. The deadline for all application materials is January 16, 2015 for elementary school and January 23 for middle school.

  • Applications for Tuition Assistance
for the next school year will be due on February 9, 2015. We strongly suggest that you make an appointment with your tax preparer and plan to complete your 2014 tax return so that it can be submitted to FAST in advance of the February 10 deadline. The application will be available beginning December 1. Applications submitted after the deadline will receive secondary consideration.

Seen @Wornick this week: Simchat Torah celebration last week and our kindergarteners enjoyed a field trip to CuriOdyssey.
