Project Homeless Connect - the best field trip...ever

As you know, today our kids volunteered  with Project Homeless Connect.  They helped escort some of the hundreds of homeless people in attendance to receive services like vision care, housing assistance and legal.  It was a little overwhelming at first for many of our kids.  There are no words to describe the transformation in the 2 hours they worked.  From Danielle and Adam using their Spanish and Mandarin to help those who only spoke those languages to Zach wheeling around a gentleman all morning, every single one of our kids had an important experience.  The confidence and competence they displayed was extraordinary.  After lunch, they listened to a formally homeless person tell their story as well as a representative from Project Homeless Connect.  A huge thank you to Caron Taab for coordinating this amazing experience for all of us!

If that was not special enough, as we walked by City Hall on the way to the parking lot, our kids noticed snow (brought in for a holiday celebration) and had an impromptu snowball fight!  Our adventure continued with a quick look at the lobby in City Hall.  They were impressed with the beautiful domed ceiling and majestic staircase.  The origami Christmas Tree was a hit as well.  If THAT wasn't enough to make the day a winner, on the way back to the cars, we ran into Mayor Newsom who had a quick snowball fight with us and posed for pictures!

Comments in my car on the way home included, "This was the best field trip EVER!"  Again, thanks to Caron for making this happen.  What a great way to end Chanukah!
