The Spring Celebration Gala, 2008

On March 22, 2008, the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School will hold its annual Spring Celebration Gala Dinner and Auction at our school, in Foster City, where we expect to draw more than 400 guests. We will gather together to celebrate the importance of Jewish Education in general and the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish day School in particular.

This year, we have the pleasure of conferring a special honor - the Ner Tamid Award - on Mervyn and Rochelle Danker. This award is conferred upon those who have made exceptional contributions to Jewish education, shown outstanding community leadership and stood by their dedication to Israel.

The Honorees

This year, the Ronald C.Wornick Jewish Day School is honored to present the Ner Tamid Award to Mervyn and Rochelle Danker for their exceptional contributions to Jewish education, their outstanding community leadership and their dedication to Israel.

Throughout his career, Mervyn has worked tirelessly to promote the importance of Jewish education in general, and more recently of the Wornick Jewish Day School in particular.

After teaching public school, Mervyn was appointed principal of the Theodore Herzl School in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The school gained national recognition because of its outstanding secular and Judaic Studies program. After nine years, the Dankers were recruited to West Perth, where Mervyn served as the headmaster of the Carmel School until 1989. Prior to coming to Wornick, Mervyn and Rochelle lived in West Hartford, Connecticut, where Mervyn was the Head of School at the Solomon Schechter Jewish Day School.

In each community in which he has been a leader, Mervyn has supervised the strategic planning process. As a result, he has been instrumental in overseeing the development of smaller Jewish day schools into more prominent institutions of Jewish Education.

Mervyn and Rochelle Danker joined the Ronald C.Wornick Jewish Day School community in 1997, along with their three children, Dionne, Gareth and David. Since then, Mervyn has served as the Head of School and has overseen its enormous growth and development . When Mervyn & Rochelle arrived in the Bay Area, the Wornick Jewish Day School (previously known as the North Peninsula Jewish Day School) had a total enrollment of 69 students. Today, the current enrollment at Wornick is 260 pupils, housed in a modern, newly constructed facility on a shared campus with the Peninsula JCC.

Over the past eleven years, Mervyn & Rochelle have provided the leadership and vision that have been integral to the successful development of our school. Their life-long dedication to providing high quality education, both Jewish and secular, has influenced the schools, students, parents, and local communities in which they have lived, spanning three continents. Moreover, their support, passion and dedication to the State and people of Israel have been inspirational to those around them. The Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School has been privileged to have had the visionary leadership of Mervyn & Rochelle Danker.

Sponsorship Opportunities

As our beloved school continues to thrive and grow, funds are needed to maintain the high standards in Jewish and secular education we have set for RCWJDS. Our Annual Spring Celebration supports the school in a fundamental way by contributing to the operating budget; helping to close the $1,800 per child gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating our children.

Auction

The on-line/silent auction for this year’s Spring Celebration will open on March 17th. The live auction will take place at the Gala, on March 22, 2008.

In order to have a successful auction, we need every family to do their part. This means everyone attempting to get at least one fabulous auction item donated to the school. In addition, this year we have a special incentive program - you can “solicit” away your Chai hours (see hand book for by laws). Instead of your hours, or your end of year payment, just turn in a new commercial item(s), tickets or gift-vouchers you have solicited, worth at least a $360 face value, and your Chai Hours will be waived.

In order to get items donated, please give potential donors an auction request letter and donation form. These are available for you to print directly.

Commercial Auction donors will have their names and contributions publicized in our Tribute/Advertising Program, which will be distributed to all of our attendees. In addition, the donated items and relevant contact information will be available in a widely advertised on-line Auction, accessible to a substantial community-based audience of over 3,500 people. Donating an item is a great way for donors to introduce potential customers to their company. Their donation will also serve as an introduction or reminder of the quality products/services that they provide to our local community.

To participate in our event by donating or soliciting an Auction item, please complete the downloadable Auction Item Contribution Form.

Special Tributes

We invite you to send a personal message of congratulations to the Dankers and/or a message to the Wornick School community. As we prepare for Mervyn’s retirement, this is an opportunity for individuals/families to show their appreciation for the numerous ways in which the Dankers have contributed to our community. As seen in the downloadable Tribute/Advertising form, these dedications can range from a full page to one line. The form also includes a price sheet and specifications for tributes. We are hoping to include as many of you as possible in this tribute.
