| | Fires in Israel and Haifa Our hearts go out to all the affected Israelis and our friends in Haifa, especially our partners at the Reali School, who have been displaced due to the fires in the area. With guidance from our local and Reali friends, we can let you know that the best way to aide is to support the Jewish Community Federation (jewishfed.org), The Jewish National Fund which plants trees in Israel (jnf.org), SF Gives Back (sfgivesback.org) set up by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to help our sister city, and/or the Masorti organization that lost its entire second story housing, nursery school, Beit Midrash and youth wing (http://masorti.org/project-phoenix/). Toda Raba to all who can help.

| | Chanukkah Celebration! On Friday, December 16, we'll have an all-school celebration of Chanukkah, co-sponsored by the PTO, the Wornick JS Department, and Shalom Ivrit! The students will have art stations, a party in the classroom and a special program - a Chanukkah performance of the Israeli classic Dirah L'Haskir (Apartment to Rent) for Grades TK-5 and a Krav Maga workshop for Grade 6-8. We'll conclude with an all-school Chanukkah nosh - latkes and sufganiyot!
We need parent volunteers starting at 10:15 a.m. to help support the teachers in the classroom activities, help prepare/serve the nosh, and Hebrew speaking parent volunteers for the Krav Maga workshop. Please consider volunteering as a Chanukkah gift to your child's class! Sign up here.

| | Joel Abramovitz's Blog: Wonder and Curiosity! One of the most powerful aspects of learning is wondering. We see this every day - students asking questions about life, about their friends, about the content in front of them. It's a natural inclination of a child: to wonder, to ask, to inquire, to ponder. To be curious. As an adult, it's a wondrous thing to witness because as we grow up, we can lose that sense of wonder as a sacrifice to competency and efficiency. But one of the most powerful things we as teachers can do is sustain that sense of wonder. Read more
