| | Fires in Israel and Haifa Our hearts go out to all the affected Israelis and our friends in Haifa, especially our partners at the Reali School, who have been displaced due to the fires in the area. With guidance from our local and Reali friends, we can let you know that the best way to aide is to support the Jewish Community Federation (jewishfed.org), The Jewish National Fund which plants trees in Israel (jnf.org), SF Gives Back (sfgivesback.org) set up by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to help our sister city, and/or the Masorti organization that lost its entire second story housing, nursery school, Beit Midrash and youth wing (http://masorti.org/project-phoenix/). Toda Raba to all who can help.

| | Chai Excellence Fund - Our Annual Campaign has begun! We have reached 100% staff and board participation for six consecutive years! We are once again hoping that we can accomplish 100% participation with our current families, too. We are at 65% parent participation and our goal is to reach 100% by December 31. See where your class stands in the chart on the right! The students in the first four classes to reach 100% will be invited to celebrate at a party with the principals and Dr. G. For more information on how together we can reach this goal contact Phoenix Feinbloom at pfeinbloom@wornickjds.org or call 650.378.2621. To make your gift visit www.wornickjds.org/giving.

| | Lost and Found Reminder Many of the students' lunchboxes are collecting on the outside rack. Please check the rack for missing items and be sure to take them home. It is supposed to rain again, so make sure they get home safe. | |

| | The Fall Book Fair was a success! Thank you to all who shopped and volunteered. The event would not be a success without all of you and the enthusiasm of our students. The PTO will get a percentage of sales from the book fair which will be used for PTO sponsored events throughout the school year. Our next PTO event, a Chanukkah party, will be co-sponsored with the Wornick staff and Shalom Ivrit. This event will be held on Friday December 16 during school hours. We will need some parent volunteers, so a sign-up will be coming out shortly. Please stay tuned for more information. Starting this week the PTO will be selling Gingerbread Menorahs and Chanukkah wrapping paper on Friday before and after school. If you can't make it to school and would like to order, please email Katie at krcwolff@gmail.com. Save the Date for a fun (adult only) evening of Poker on February 2, 2017! | |

| | Karen Alexander's Blog: Learning How to Receive a Mitzvah We spend a lot of time at Wornick—as educators and as parents—teaching our children about Tzedakah, righteous giving. It's in the fabric of our community to understand that giving is not just an obligation; it's a privilege and it feels great to "do good" for others. It's harder, I think, to learn how to be on the other side of a mitzvah. How many of us know what it's like to really be on the receiving end of Tzedakah? Read more
