Middle School Information Night

Learn what's in store for your children at Wornick Middle School at this special information night exclusively for the parents of current Wornick Fifth Graders. Wednesday, October 26 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the home of Debbie and David Goren. RSVP to kalexander@wornickjds.org

Halloween Reminder

Halloween is coming ~ but please save your costumes for Purim! We recognize that Halloween is an American holiday with little connection to its early religious origins and that most of our children will go trick or treating. The values that the holiday promotes (asking random people for something - rather than giving, emphasis on unhealthful treats, scaring people, etc.) are values that run counter to our school values. Consequently, we do not celebrate Halloween at our school. In contrast, Purim, which comes in March is a joyous celebration filled with silliness and celebrates giving (gifts to the poor) - we look forward to seeing those creative costumes then!

Puberty Education Parent Night with Ivy Chen

On November 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ulam Gadol, Ivy Chen, our "sex ed" visiting professor from San Francisco State University will be presenting her curricula to parents in Grades 5-8. Just as she allows the students to ask whatever they want, she affords parents the same accommodation. So, bring your questions about what the students will be learning in science the week of November 7-11.

K-4th Moadon Haseret/מועדון הסרט Hebrew Movie Theater

Please save Sunday, November 20 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for our fall K-4th Hebrew movie theater experience in the Beit Midrash. We will be watching a Disney animated film in Hebrew. Children can wear pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. Snacks and popcorn will be provided. Last year's experience was a huge success and we look forward to another fun morning.

Hot Lunch
Some parents have asked how they can be a substitute server for hot lunch. We welcome any and all so please just email Pam at pbodin@wornickjds.org and let her know that you would like to be on the substitute server email notification list.

REMINDERS

Any unopened non-perishable food items (i.e., pasta, canned goods, rice, peanut butter, etc.) are appreciated. Please be sure to put any food with nuts in a sealed paper bag.

Road and Safety Improvements on South Road
Please be sure to abide by of all of our new road signs. It only takes a split second for accidents to happen. Thank you for being patient and proactive about the safety of our students.

Generations Day - A Hunger Banquet for Middle School students and their visiting family members will take place in the MPR of the PJCC Preschool during Generations Day. A Hunger Banquet is a memorable, interactive event that brings hunger and poverty issues to life. Middle School guests will begin their morning in the Ulam Gadol with all other special Generations Day guests.

Save the Date: Fall Book Fair will be held the week of November 28 - December 2.

Common Ground Speaker Series - School Rep Needed

WORDS OF WISDOM

Michal Braker's Blog: Power of Words (Koach Shel Milim) - כוח של מילים

The Hebrew Reali School in Haifa is a K-12th grade independent educational institute and is a well-known and respected school in Israel. Both Reali and R.C. Wornick Jewish Day School share similar missions and educational philosophies and both are independent (not public) schools. There are, however, several significant differences between the two schools - Reali was founded in 1913 and Wornick a mere seventy-three years later. Reali is a multi-campus K-12 school of 4,000 students, and we are a single campus K-8 small school.  Read more
