ANNOUNCEMENTS

Screenagers - Tuesday, September 27 @ 7:30 p.m.

We are thrilled that many parents have registered for Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. film Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age. A few families have signed up to bring your children as well. Please note that all middle school students will be watching the film in school on Wednesday morning. If you bring your middle schooler to the film Tuesday night, they will be seeing it twice. If you plan to attend the film, please register at www.wornickjds.org/visit. It's not too late to invite your friends! Click here for the event flyer.

Screenagers Update: 7th Grade Tzedakah Project will be selling popcorn and water during our screening on the evening of September 27. Don't miss this opportunity to have a tasty snack AND support the Tzedakah project at the same time!

Lost & Found Reminder

Remember to label your personal items. We are only a few weeks into school and there are already several lunch boxes in the Lost & Found with no names on them. Please put your last name on all reusable water bottles, jackets, lunch boxes and tupperwares so they can be returned to you. Just in case you are hunting for items... Our Lost & Found rack is at the far end of the first floor hall. Please check it regularly.

REMINDERS

High Holiday Challot and Honey Cakes
If you have ordered round challot or honey cakes for Rosh HaShanah, they will be available in the office for pick up on Friday.

Second Harvest Food Bins
Food collection bins from JFCS (Jewish Family and Childrens' Service) have been placed in our lobby and first floor corridor. As we get ready to celebrate the fall holidays of Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, let's make sure that we share our abundance with those in need. Please deposit in these bins unopened non-perishable food items - for example, pasta, canned goods, rice, peanut butter, etc. Please note that if you do bring any foods with nuts to please be sure and put them in a sealed paper bag.

Gift of Israel Program Update

As you may be aware, the Jewish Community Federation has re-worked the Gift of Israel program. The savings program has been discontinued, but they will be honoring it for this year only. If you currently have a savings account and your child is NOT in 8th grade, you will need to withdraw your funds. The disbursement form may be found here.

Once your child is in 8th grade, you may apply for a straightforward grant via the Federation's new Israel Within Reach program. Families no longer have to contribute personal funds to a savings account. Online applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis up until two months prior to the trip's departure date. Further information on the new program may be found here.

Pizza Bagels are Back!
Due to popular demand, pizza bagels will be making a return to Thursday Hot Lunch. This is in addition to our delicious veggie and protein filled options (salad, scrambled eggs and tuna salad). Chocolate milk is also available for $1 each for any day except Wednesdays when meat is served. For changes to your Hot Lunch order, please contact Pam at pbodin@wornickjds.org.

Wornick Logo Kippot

Perhaps you have noticed our kindergarteners sporting hip orange Wornick logo kippot. They are available for $8 in the Wornick office. The kippot are made of athletic mesh fabric with the Wornick logo embroidered. They feature two built-in clips to keep them in place even during the most rousing song sessions!

Dr. Gereboff's Head Notes: The Rise and Fall of Children's Shopping Carts

Last week I saw a segment on the news about an initiative at Target to withdraw the child-sized shopping carts that the company had tried out in 72 stores in August. A Google search of "Target kid's shopping carts" finds numerous articles and YouTube videos with titles that describe the initiative as a "Shin-bashing Menace…" (Fortune 9/23/16), and "nightmare" kids' carts that are "vehicles of mass destruction" (Business insider, 9/22/16)...  Read More
