March 4, 2016 @Wornick

This Week
Kindergarteners were out in the hallway with big numbered tiles, writing computer code with their bodies. They moved through the codes across the floor, on the lookout for bugs that would have required them to start over.

First grade was off to the theater on Friday, for a performance of Curious George at Chabot College Playhouse. Second grade commanded the stage at Kabalat Shabbat, presenting an interactive map of landforms in California, Israel and the United States.

Fifth graders wowed their families with knowledgeable and poised presentations about the artists they have been researching at the first ever Coco House art talks on Thursday. From artists Walt Disney to Piet Mondrian, Auguste Rodin and Frank Gehry, they have become experts in a variety of artists and their media. Next Thursday night, they will show off their own creative interpretations--dressed as the artists themselves--at a Gallery Walk in the Ulam Gadol.

Sixth grade started their new art elective with Ginger. Seventh graders are diving into their civil rights study in English class and prophetic voices in Judaic Studies--preparation for their upcoming civil rights trip to the American South.

Seventh graders met their eight grade Tzedakah project mentors, who will coach them through the final stages of their essays.

Eighth grade Accelerated English students culminated their examination of Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers in a series of book talks with Wornick faculty celebrities Mr. Abramovitz, Mrs. Davis and Dr. Gereboff.

Dr. Gereboff's Head Notes: Values in Action
Every now and then our children and our students surprise us by exceeding our expectations.  A couple of weeks ago, our seventh graders did just that by actively advocating for the wellbeing of their entire class.  Their actions beautifully demonstrated their value of the dignity of each person, a profound regard for community, and a “take-charge” stance.  Read More
