This Week
Well, it's primary season and the students in room 1B are running for President! You can read their campaign posters on the bulletin board. Campaign speeches are underway--with an emphasis on speaking with expression--and the races are tight.

Explorer Sebastian Viscaino made an appearance in fourth grade this week! He was the last of only three explorer to visit Alta California between 1542-1602. After that, no Europeans came to California until 1769. Of course, if you're in fourth grade at Wornick you already know that.

Seventh grade algebra students were in the kindergarten twice this week, helping the kinders assemble a scale model of the solar system in the downstairs hallway. Kindergarten built the planets. Algebra students did the calculations, and the kinders learned about numbers and scale in counting by twos, measuring the right number of two-foot ceiling tiles to map out distances in the hallway. The kindergarteners used their rulers, and the 7th graders climbed the ladders. Neptune is all the way at the opposite end of the hallway, but don't look for Pluto. It has been relegated to a "dwarf planet."

Words of Wisdom

Dr. Gereboff's Head Notes: What Exactly is Critical Thinking?
The question: “What is the difference between how Egyptian slavery is described in the Bible versus in the historical document under scrutiny?” sparked a lively conversation in a sixth grade social studies class last week. The class continued by determining the supporting evidence for the parallel texts and delineating the assumptions in each set of texts. There was considerable discussion about the difference between belief and supported evidence.  Read More
