February 23, 2010

With the 7th Grade Tzedakah project in full swing, the Wornick Trustees and guests were thrilled to have a presentation from four 7th graders on the scope of the project and their individual areas of interest. We are very proud of both this project for what its expression of our community's values AND of our students who spoke with confidence and poise about their commitment to service.  We were all inspired by their presentation.

Additionally, Roger Feigelson and Roxanne Cohen, the Campaign Chair for the North Peninsula of the Jewish Community Federation and Director of the NPJCF, presented to the Trustees on the commitment of Federation to Jewish education and to Wornick. We are thankful for the continued support of the Federation for our school, our tuition assistance fund and our Israel education programs.

The remainder of the Board meeting featured an informative discussion of the Development Strategy and progress to date.  A number of our classes are close to 100% participation and the school is over 50% participation for the first time in the history of our annual campaign.  The spring gala on May 23rd honoring our teachers will be a great celebration of another year at Wornick. We also discussed the profile for new Trustees joining the Board at the end of this school year.

We hope you will join us for our next Board meeting - rescheduled to March 24, 2010 at 7pm to adjust for Trustees attending the Washington DC AIPAC Policy Conference.

Board Buzz January 26, 2010

Welcome back to school. We hope everyone had a fabulous winter break and is enjoying the return to Wornick.  Please make sure you can join us for our May 23 community tribute to Wornick teachers.  In addition, please take five minutes to review the video below on the Wornick budget.

At our first meeting of the new calendar year, the Board of Trustees received the Auditors Report, discussed and voted on key elements of the 2010-2011 budget and discussed the preliminary results from the parents survey.

Audit - we are pleased that we concluded a successful audit and that the administration had already implemented the additional recommendations of the auditors.

Budget - we reviewed our enrollment, contribution and cost projections and voted on tuition and tuition assistance.  The details will be communicated to the community in February.

We'd like all parents and community members to understand our budget process and priorities as well as the revenues and expenses of the school.  Please view this short (under 5 minutes) video.

The parent survey results will be distributed to the parent body in February and should spark considerable discussion.

Our next Board meeting is February 23 and we'll be discussing development strategies for the school. Please join us.

Board Buzz October 21, 2009

Hi Wornick Parents,

This month, the Board of Trustees was lucky to be educated by Dr. Rachel Korazim who is working with all our faculty to create a truly ground-breaking Israel integrated curriculum at Wornick.  Our General and Judaic Studies teachers are working with Dr. Korazim and our administrators to expose our children to Israel through science, literature, social studies, math, technology as well as Judaic studies and Hebrew.  The result is that our children will naturally grasp diversity, cultural sensitivity and develop advanced critical thinking as they learn that their experiences in our country have parallels and differences in Israel.

Following Dr. Korazim, the Board learned about the progress of both our admissions program and our accreditation initiative.  Both are off to strong starts – and we hope you will all share the enthusiasm you have for Wornick with your friends throughout the North Peninsula community.  Our Kindergarten Open House is Nov. 8 from 10 – 11:30 and our Middle School Open House is Nov. 15 from 1 – 3:30.  Imagine our school if every family referred one new family to consider our school!  Thank you in advance for your support.

Next month, our Board meeting will focus on understanding the budget of the school.  It is illuminating to understand the different elements of the budget and we hope you will join us for the session on Wednesday Nov 18 at 7pm in the Ulam Gadol.

Best,

Joelle & Andy

Board Buzz September 24, 2009

Hello Wornick Families,

We hope you are all settling into the school routine well and enjoying the High Holy Days with your loved ones. The Wornick Board of Trustees is in full swing too.  We had our monthly meeting this past Wednesday September 23, 2009.  At that meeting, our current President, Maury Alchek, resigned his office due to pressing family commitments.  He nominated Andy Fradkin and Joelle Kaufman as co-Presidents for the remainder of his term.  The Board approved the nomination and we all thank Maury for his service and are thrilled that he continues as a Trustee committed to Wornick and Jewish education.

Now that school is operational, the Board reviewed and accepted a revised budget, learned details of the admission program, was presented and discussed the anti-bullying policies and practices as well as leadership curriculum by the Head of School and then collaborated on Wornick development strategy.

Our next Board meeting is October 20, 2009 and we will have Rachel Korazin, international leadership curriculum consultant, presenting.  Parents and Community members are welcome to attend.

Shana Tovah to you all,

Joelle and Andy
