Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School Athletic Handbook

Athletic participation encompasses more than just the physical needs of the student athletes, but also provides each child with an emotionally safe environment that challenges the individual to succeed. Understanding the ingredients of a healthy spirit and body combined with a healthy dose of sportsmanship and self-esteem are the cornerstones of the Wornick JDS program. Each child will emerge from the Wornick Physical Education and After School Sports Programs with a better understanding of who they are, and who they can be, while learning how to be a team player in society.

Wornick students are driven to accomplish through four key concepts that are the backbone of the Wornick JDS Athletic Programs.
  1. Respect – Self and others
  2. Responsibility – For ones own actions
  3. Commitment – To self and team
  4. Community – Conscious of the bigger picture

Wornick Athletic Facility

The Wornick Jewish Day School stands at the foot of a state of the art outdoor athletic turf field. This field is completely enclosed and has the ability to host a myriad of athletic events. Wornick JDS is also able to periodically schedule indoor athletic facilities for use in sports such as Basketball and Volleyball.  The Wornick JDS athletic program is able to offer a wide range of physical activities.

Life Long Learning

It is becoming more and more evident today that a healthy body and mind make for a better quality of life. It is the continued goal of Wornick JDS to continue to produce student graduates with a life long respect and commitment towards proper health.

Parental Involvement & Guidelines

Parental involvement is always welcome in Wornick after school sports programs. Wornick JDS as well as the Athletic Department is always on the lookout for volunteers in the transportation, and cheering realms. Furthermore the Warnock JDS administration as well as the Athletic Director welcomes comments and concerns at anytime.

Being a part of the SSIL requires that Wornick JDS follows specific guidelines in order to continue our membership in the league. Families, friends, and observers at all league hosted events must remember they are there in support of the student’s. Any grievances or concerns with either school participating should be voiced to the Athletic Director at the completion of play.

Team parents are an essential part of Wornick sports. If your child is going to participate in Wornick sports you may be asked to help coordinate snacks and transportation to and from games. Parents who are unable to fulfill a driving commitment must find a replacement driver. These duties will not be coordinated by the Wornick Athletic Department, but rather will require a volunteer parent. Please be prepared to lend a hand.

Parent Game and Practice Code of Conduct

  1. Be encouraging, supportive, and affirmative in regard to my child's play on the field.
  2. Encourage my child to talk with the coaches: If your child is having difficulties in practice or games or can’t make a practice, encourage him or her to speak directly to the coaches.
  3. Support the program: Volunteer to assist the team outside of coaching whenever possible. This includes but is not limited to the role of team parent.
  4. Sit in a designated or otherwise expectable seating area during league play; sidelines and huddles are for players and coaches only.
  5. Do not engage in any kind or type of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent.
  6. Do not walk on the floor, court, grass, or field during competition. This includes half time.
  7. Do not coach from the stands, as more then one voice can confuse the participants involved in the game. Let the coach do the coaching.
