Matan BookcaseThe Day School Library is available for our whole school community. This pleasant and comfortable space with floor cushions, a couch and tables and chairs has a wall of windows letting in lots of light and an expansive view of our local hills. Teachers find books to supplement their classroom teaching, parents can check out books on childhood, social and religious issues and, of course, our students get to take home books every week.

This resource has been in existence since the beginning of the school at its first site in San Mateo. The Library has now almost 8,000 books available for checkout. (More books are cataloged and added to the stacks every week.) This includes books in Hebrew, books on tape or CD and movies, Girls Couchand does not count the many magazines available for our children to borrow. The library circulation and catalog are automated with Spectrum Winnebago software. Two stations are available, one for checkout with a bar-code scanner and the other for card catalog use by the students. Students and all staff have their own library cards and any parents that wish to check out books are easily accommodated with their own card. The library files books under the Dewey Decimal System, so that books are easy to locate, and this knowledge base will help our students, since most public libraries and schools use this system.

The Library has many parents who volunteer with their child’s class and with cataloging new books and preparing them for shelving. Our PTO has always been very supportive, both in the purchase of books and furniture for the Library.
